I’ve made the comment in the past of having too much rope - and examples thereof. Not sure if that is the case here. But somethings been bugging me for a while, as I’m sure it has with many, which I’ll come back to.
I had forgotten when doing a lot of my archiving a decade ago, that when I transferred the song ‘Nothing’s Going On’ to Cubase, not much was left from the way I remembered the song. After the release of the ‘And We Dream’ album in 1993, I had apparently kept working on the song, wiping most of the guitars and all of the vocals. It wasn’t until many years later, that I figured out how to handle those old 8 track recordings that used SMPTE time code and had midi tracks on a PC.
In 2022 I started the retread process with Nothings Going On, but never getting as far as importing the midi keyboard and drum stuff. Instead I recorded new drums to the track then, wasn’t happy with it, and abandoned it.
Back to something bugging me. Due to the middle east being in the news everyday for the past year, I thought of this song recently, which was written during the first Gulf War. After pulling it up, I added new guitar, bass and a couple keyboard tracks. Slowly it started sounding pretty good. And finding the footage for the video idea I had was all that was left to do. I finished the track and video yesterday, and it’s out today. Boom. That’s the too much rope part. There was no one to stop me.
